João Damas (b. 1981) is a composer and electronic musician. He began his career in the late 90s in rock bands as a bass player. Soon he grew interest in writing instrumental music, starting with an EP for solo acoustic guitar (O Bosque) and an album for bass guitar accompanied by string quartet, piano and drums (A Cruzada Extraterrestre).
Later he started learning classical piano and composition. Through a process of experimentation throughout the years, with different media, aesthetics and writing numerous works, he arrived at the current of minimalism and found synthesisers as the most appropriate medium to express his musical imagination.
João’s music is highly focused on simple rhythms and a counterpoint of simple melodies, over quiet ambient textures.
He has previously released under the pseudonym “Luotone” and is now actively working under his orthonym.
João is also passionate about poetry and photography. Loves the contact with animals and nature.
